COALITION LAUNCHES “ONE NORMAN” COMMUNITY VISIONING PROCESS
The Norman Economic Development Coalition (NEDC) is pleased to announce the launch of a city-wide community visioning process to reimagine Norman’s future.
The Norman Economic Development Coalition (NEDC) is pleased to announce the launch of a city-wide community visioning process to reimagine Norman’s future. ONE NORMAN will engage residents, community stakeholders, elected and appointed officials, non-profit organizations, business owners, and local property owners to build consensus and coalitions to shape how, when, and where Norman develops for the next 20 years. ONE NORMAN Vision Partners will then adopt the portions of the vision that apply to their entity and carry it forward in their annual plans, ensuring the longevity and consistency needed to achieve the vision.
ONE NORMAN oversight will be conducted by the ONE NORMAN Vision Steering Committee, co-chaired by David Nimmo, CEO of Chickasaw Nations Industries, and Matt Peacock, Principal of Peacock Designs LLC and the Ward 8 City Councilman. In addition to funding facilitation by The Oklahoma Academy, the Vision Steering Committee will choose the 200-member ONE NORMAN Vision Task Force through an application process meant to ensure diverse representation city-wide. Those interested in applying for consideration to serve on the Vision Task Force can fill out an application at ONENORMAN.org or pick up an application at City Hall, Cleveland County Courthouse, or the Commerce Building on Main Street. The initial Town Hall meeting will be held in April, followed by a series of Task Force meetings scheduled throughout May. In June, documents will be edited and distributed before a final July Town Hall meeting when City stakeholders can further edit the Vision. The process will culminate in the creation of a final report in August that will serve as the guiding document to activate the community’s vision through ONE NORMAN Vision Partners.
“We are excited to take this important next step in developing a shared vision for the future of Norman,” said David Nimmo, CEO of Chickasaw Nation Industries. “We are committed to developing a vision in a way that reflects community needs, and honors our history while at the same time leverages our collective brand and further addresses how our community is perceived around the state.”
“I’m pleased that the community visioning process has begun for Norman,” said Norman City Councilman Matt Peacock, co-chair, and Principal with Peacock Design LLC. “It’s perfect timing to align with the City’s Comprehensive Plan and efforts to strengthen our town through collaboration with Strong Towns.”
NEDC President and CEO Lawrence McKinney added, “It’s important we respectfully engage all stakeholders to plan our shared future. The structure we are using is balanced and effective and has been used in every state and hundreds of communities, large and small. Our staff, led by Crystal Romanyszyn, Senior VP, and the Oklahoma Academy, will ensure meaningful and engaging dialogue achieves consent if not consensus when we emerge from this process.”
