Today, President Joe Biden and other White House Administration officials announced the Oklahoma Biotech Innovation Cluster (OBIC) Initiative, a coalition spearheaded by the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, including the University of Oklahoma, Norman Economic Development Coalition, Oklahoma City Innovation District, and other industry partners has been awarded $35 million through the Build Back Better Regional Challenge of the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

Maureen Hammond, vice president of the Norman Economic Development Coalition, has been selected by the NEDC board of directors to serve as interim president and CEO.

Following a board meeting on Aug. 26, the Norman Economic Development Coalition has appointed an interim executive director following the departure of Maureen Hammond earlier this summer.

NEDC will be attending two significant events this spring as part of the organization’s overall strategy to attract new investment and jobs.

Maureen Hammond informed the NEDC board of directors that she has accepted a position as the executive director of the Paris, Texas Economic Development Corporation.

Jason Smith attended an international economic and community development conference in France with a delegation from Norman.

The University of Oklahoma is Norman’s largest employer in addition to attracting many other employers to the city.

Speaking of new hires, NEDC is extremely excited to be one of the only cities in the country (if not the only city) with a technology entrepreneur as the leader of its public school system. In fact, he started a company in the NEDC operated eTec incubator before selling to Jostens.
