Entertainment District Passes!
Entertainment District Passes!
NEDC statement from Lawrence McKinney
I would like to thank all the City Council members who voted for the Rock Creek Entertainment District project tonight. These decisions are rarely clear-cut, and have to be weighed against multiple factors so I appreciate the level of care and consideration the council put into this vote.
There are many reasons to support this project, but through my lens as an economic developer, the main one is because this is good for Norman and our region.
This project is a live, work, play development that will be unlike anything currently found in our city, region or state. It will create thousands of jobs and generate billions in business spending.
It represents a public-private partnership that spreads the funding and risk among multiple stakeholders. It takes into account the opinions of hundreds of Normanites who said they want a development that reflects our community’s values and captures our desire to stand out in a crowded market. This project will attract new visitors and offer enriching experiences for Norman's residents, helping to recapture spending currently lost to other regions and retain our young professionals.
And the best part? We can do it all without increasing taxes on any Norman residents. Not one cent.
This project is a win/win for our community and I am so thankful the Council saw that tonight. However, the efforts to get this project built do not stop here and we at NEDC will continue to tout the financial, cultural, and economic benefits of this project until it is across the final finish line and construction starts on this exciting project.
