The University of Oklahoma Foundation has released a proposal that would build a new entertainment district anchored by a 10,000-seat arena in the northern half of University North Park.
The plan has been presented to the Norman City Council to consider for both planning purposes and potential funding opportunities. You can find out more about the project here: link. The site includes an overview of the entire project as well as an economic impact analysis by Dr. Robert Dauffenbach. The entire plan includes the 60 acres developed by the Norman Economic Development Coalition. Those 60 acres include the new IMMY facility. While the NEDC Board of Directors hasn’t specifically taken a position on the project, an entertainment district of this type would assist in achieving one of the organization’s goals of attracting and retaining talented young professionals to fill jobs across our community and potentially start new companies. The organization is working with the Foundation on this strategy as it relates to the NEDC-developed business park as well as the owners of IMMY. As more details emerge, we will keep you informed of the impact of this project on our community’s economic development efforts.
