NEDC President Accepts New Position

Maureen Hammond Plans Departure July 31

NORMAN, OKLA. – The Norman Economic Development Coalition interim president and CEO, Maureen Hammond, informed the NEDC board of directors that she has accepted a position as the executive director of the Paris, Texas Economic Development Corporation. Her last day with NEDC will be July 31.

Hammond has served as interim president and CEO of NEDC since March 2019, following 15 years of service in the role of vice president with the organization.

“Maureen’s tenure with the NEDC includes career highlights that have had a direct impact on jobs in Norman and our improved economic development footprint,” said Patrick Grace, board chair. “Her accomplishments include identifying support and incentives that facilitated the expansion of PowerCost Inc. and completing the transaction for the new $8M Commander Aircraft headquarters. She helped to attract new businesses to Norman that created hundreds of new jobs. She was instrumental in launching Startup 405 to provide incubator space for entrepreneurs and startup companies and at the same time connect them with resources and incentives for growth. Her contributions to Norman’s economic growth and stability will be recognized and appreciated for years to come.”

Hammond credits mentors and predecessors for successes that have made Norman an attractive place for business relocation and expansion.

“Don Wood had the vision for University North Park Corporate Center and Advance Manufacturing Centers, developed from land purchased by NEDC,” says Hammond. “The area has been a magnet for new businesses and expansions, attracting companies including IMMY and more recently, Commander Aircraft. Jason Smith led Norman’s strategic plan to build a robust entrepreneurial community and retain young, degreed professionals – we continue to see the return on his time, planning, and vision.”

The board of directors for NEDC is developing a transition plan and will make an announcement soon.

“I am so grateful for Maureen’s 17 years of service to our community. She has left her mark in so many ways and Norman is truly better for her leadership,” says Mayor Breea Clark. “We wish her well in this new endeavor.”
