New program brings aerospace and aviation education to Oklahoma cities, rural parts of the state

NORMAN, Okla. —

A partnership between the Oklahoma Aviation Academy and the Virtual Preparatory Academy of Oklahoma will bring aerospace and aviation education across the state.

“This year is the first year that we're partnering together to be able to bring this as a statewide option for students all across the state of Oklahoma," said Erin Roberts, superintendent for the Virtual Preparatory Academy of Oklahoma.

It’s thanks to a new collaboration with the Oklahoma Aviation Academy at Norman Public Schools. It’s the third year OAA is offering the aviation education.

“The original vision for this was to create a high school experience aimed at all the different career and educational pathways the kids that are interested in aviation can explore,” said Rick Nagel with the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents.

OAA is located at the Max Westheimer Airport, where students enrolled in the course learn to fly, work on airplanes and think about the next generation of aircraft.
